This newcomer features wider tracks and unique styling.
The Passport is a smaller version of the pilot. It has been around since 2019, and now it will get its first major update. This update will allow the Passport to compete with other five-seat SUVs. TrailSport is a rugged trim level that has been introduced by Honda. This is in response to the growing popularity of off-road vehicles.
This midsize SUV’s new specification features cosmetic improvements, but also wider front and back tracks (+10 millimeters/0.4 inches), which Honda claims gives it better stability and stance. Passport TrailSport has 18-inch wheels, which are exclusive to this model. They’re wrapped in 245/60 R18 tires with sidewall tread for a rugged appearance.
It comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system that includes torque vectoring, as you would expect from an offroad-oriented trim. The same 3.5-liter V6 delivers 280 horsepower (209 Kilowatts) as well as 262 pound-feet (355 Newton meters) of torque to both wheels through a nine speed automatic transmission.
Passport’s new flavor is distinguished by its orange TrailSport badges at the front grille, tailgate and interior. The stitching on the steering wheel, seats and door cards are orange. TrailSport will also be embroidered on the front seat headrests and molded onto the standard equipment rubber floor mats.
Honda has already announced plans to upgrade the Passport TrailSport with a more offroad-tuned suspension system and larger tires in the next model years. Additional models will also get a TrailSport specification with aggressive bumpers, unique grille designs, and more.
The 2022 model-year switchover does not just concern the TrailSport. The regular Passport will also be getting a makeover, along with an optional HPD package. Honda Performance Development created the new kit. It includes a new front grille, black flares and different wheels. HPD graphics are also featured on the rear quarter panel. This is to match the Ridgeline.
The 2022 Passport features larger exhaust finishers, redesigned bumpers and contrast stitching for EX-L’s leather seats. All trims get LED headlights and smart entry with push button start.
This winter, Honda dealers will carry the updated Passport.
