It is essentially a three-row Compass.
Different people have different meanings for the Jeep Commander. It’s the midsize SUV codenamed XK, which was available until 2010. Europeans and others know it by its internal name and V6 diesel engine. It’s the name of a pair if SUVs in China ( Commander/Grand Commander), which were launched in 2018 to follow up on the Yuntu concept.
Now, fast forward to August 2021 and there is a new Commander. It’s a seven-seater version of the updated 2022 Compass. Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, has finally revealed the Brazilian version. We’re talking about the top-of-the-line Overland trim.
Jeep made an effort to give the Commander its own identity with the exterior design. The familiar seven-slot grille is complemented by new headlights that have a flatter design. The LED light bar, which serves as daytime running lights for the bumper’s new bumper, is located just above the fog lights. The SUV’s front fascia is updated with metallic accents.
A significantly larger greenhouse is visible on the side, with a larger quarter glass. This is a reflection of Commander’s larger footprint. As you can see in recent spy photos, the metallic strip that runs along the vehicle’s side before reaching the rear pillar looks very similar to the two row 2022 Grand Cherokee.
The changes to the Compass from moving backward are substantial as the Commander has slimmer taillights mounted higher. The tailgate appears to be larger and conceals the handle, as opposed to sticking out under the license plate like it does with the smaller SUV. The badges “TD” or “4×4” indicate that we are dealing with a vehicle with a turbodiesel engine. They send output to both axles.
If you are familiar with the 2022 Compass’s interior, it should look very familiar. However, technical specifications have not been disclosed by Jeep. The 2.0-liter engine will produce around 200 horsepower via a nine-speed auto transmission, according to Motor1.com Brazil. A 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that is compatible with flex fuel should produce 185 horsepower and 270 Nm (200lb-ft) via a six speed auto and optional 4×4.
Jeep states that production will be in Pernambuco, and it will export Commander to Latin American markets after its launch in Brazil on August 26th.
