2022 Kia Ceed Facelift Revealed with New Lights and Redesigned Grille

A series of design changes have been made to the Proceed, wagon, hatchback and wagon.

The Ceed has a 28 percent market share in Kia’s European markets. It is competing in a highly competitive C-segment, where the Volkswagen Golf dominates. The South Koreans gave their compact car a mid-cycle upgrade, bringing a variety of styling changes.

The most noticeable of all is the new front grille, which features prominent metallic accents and an open design on the plug in hybrid version. The new headlights are flanked by three arrow-shaped elements that serve as daytime running lights. They replace the 4-point LED system of the Ceed’s pre-facelift.

The five-door hatchback is available in the GT-Line and the flagship GT trims. Your Ceed will also have redesigned taillights that feature no less than 48 honeycomb-shaped elements, covered with smoked glasses. The rear clusters feature dynamic lights, which are LEDs that light up in a progressive manner when turn signals are activated.

The Kia design team also modified the bumpers, particularly the front, where there is a shiny black trim that extends the fake air intakes. The changes include new alloy wheels in 17- and 18 inch sizes, as well as four new body colors: Experience Green (Yucc Steel Grey), Machined Bronze (Lemon Splash).

On the inside, the modifications are not as obvious. You’ll still find the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25 inch touchscreen. There will be five upholstery options available, three of which are new with the facelifted model. The GT-Line and GT models will also have a newly designed shift knob.

The Ceed’s new design includes wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a USB charging port at the center console. You can have heated front and back seats, as well as dual-zone automatic climate control.

The usual suspects are included in the engine lineup, starting with a turbocharged, 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 120 horsepower. The engine comes standard with a seven speed, dual-clutch auto transmission that includes a coasting function. It also benefits from a 48V mild hybrid setup to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. A 100-hp bifuel version of the same three-pot engine accepts LPG. A 1.6-liter diesel has a 136hp output and is also available with a mild hybrid configuration.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain is available with the wagon. It combines a 1.6 liter GDI (gasoline-direct injection) engine with an 8-kWh lithium-polymer pack and a 6-speed dual-clutch auto. The PHEV estate has a combined output power of 141 hp (195 lbft) and 265 Nm (265 Nm). It can run on EV mode for up to 36 miles (58 km).

For those who need more power, the 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 160 horsepower or the slightly larger 1.6 liter reserved for GT models which pumps out 204 HP and is only linked to the seven-speed DCT will be sufficient.

The Kia 2022 Ceed facelift will be produced at the factory in Zilina in Slovakia in August. Customers will begin receiving their vehicles by the fourth quarter. The new lineup includes the Proceed, the wagon and the hatchback. It is likely that the XCeed crossover will see these styling changes by next year.
