The range topper also has an electronic limited slip differential.
The EV6 was unveiled by Kia a few weeks ago, but no technical details were released. We now have all the details, as well as additional imagery of the GT-Line or the GT-Top. Although it might look like a crossover, the first electric vehicle is a dedicated model. It has all the power and performance that sports cars have.
Dual electric motors power the EV6 GT. They produce 577 horsepower (430 kilowatts) combined and have a huge instant torque of 546 pound feet (740 Newton-meters). The all-wheel-drive electric crossover can sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h), in just three and a quarter seconds, and tops out at 162mph (260 km/h). These are preliminary development targets, Kia states. However, we believe the South Korean brand will reach these speeds in its production model.
Only the range-topper model comes with an electronic limited slip differential that improves handling on all roads. The smallest of the batteries, at 58 kWh, is also available from Kia, but the AWD-only GT comes with the larger 77.4-kWh package.
You can choose efficiency over performance by choosing the larger battery with the single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration. In this case, the EV6 can travel more than 316 miles (510 km) on a single recharge per WLTP.
Kia allows buyers to choose between all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive, as well as the smaller or larger batteries on all models except the flagship GT. You can also get the GT-Line, a sporty-looking electric crossover, in different configurations.
It takes just 18 minutes to charge the battery, which can reach 10 to 80 percent in about four and a quarter minutes if it is the RWD model with the larger battery. The RWD model with the larger battery will achieve 62 miles (100 km) of range in only four and a third minutes. The new Kia Ev6 can charge external devices just like its brother model, the Hyundai Iniq 5. Kia claims it can power both a 55-inch TV as well as an AC for longer than 24 hours. Alternatively, the EV6 is capable of charging another electric vehicle’s battery.
You might be curious about the dimensions of the Kia bespoke electric car, which rides on the E-GMP platform, at 4,680 millimeters (184.2 in) long, 1,880mm (74in) wide and 1,550mm (61in) high, with a wheelbase of 2,900mm (114.1in). GT Line and GT are slightly longer and wider than the GT, while the GT Line is slightly shorter and wider. The GT Line’s GT Line sits slightly higher to the ground. Although the EV6 is roughly the same size as the Ioniq 5, its wheelbase is 100 mm shorter (3.9in) and the ride height is a little lower, it has the same footprint.
Practicality is a concern. The trunk can hold 520 liters (18.3 cuft) or 1,300 Liters (45.9 cuft) when you lower the rear seats. It is an electric car and has a front trunk or, as the cool kids call it, a frunk. It has a 52-liter capacity in the two-wheel-drive version, but it drops to 20 liters (0.7 cuft) when you order the car equipped with AWD. The US-spec Ioniq 5 has shown that the AWD model is smaller than the 2WD version.
The EV6 will be manufactured in South Korea by Kia and the electric crossover will be launched in the second half of 2012. Online reservations are available in some markets.
