Although the name has not been confirmed, the performance sedan will certainly be replacing the V6.
The C63 is the most popular, but what about “AMG Lite?” The Motor.es has spotted the smaller of the two Affalterbach performance sedans and is currently undergoing final testing in south Europe. There are conflicting reports about the model’s name. Some say it will retain the C43 badge, while others claim that it will be aligned with the 53 moniker used for the E53. Plot twist – Auto Bild claims the model’s name will be C45.
The sports sedan will continue to have the quad-round exhaust tips, whereas the C63 will keep the more angular ones. The C45’s smaller wheels and more aggressive air intakes make them stand out from the C63. They also seem less glued to the roads than the C63. The fake front air vents are apparent if you look closely.
Functionally, the C63 is a functional model.
The new C45, like all other C-Class models (including the C63), will be powered with a four-cylinder engine. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine will be sourced from the 45 cars. However, the C63’s rear-mounted electric motor will not be used. The electric turbocharger originally developed for the hypercar is not yet available to the combustion engine. It’s also unclear if it will be used on the C63.
The flagship model’s M139 will have 442 horsepower (330kilowatts). This is more than the 385 horsepower (287 kW), delivered by the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 of the C43. The AMG will be available in both a wagon and coupe body styles. Convertibles and coupes will likely merge with the two-door E-Class models to make the CLE.
The C45 will likely debut first in 2019, with the C63 following suit in 2022.
