It will begin arriving at US dealers in the first half of next year.
The Mercedes EQS was launched this year to be the brand’s fully-electric flagship sedan. Today, the company will introduce the high-performance AMG version. The sleek design packs a powerful performance punch and is the first AMG-branded EQ model to be introduced in the US. AMG was involved in a number of upgrades that saw the model deliver up to 751 horsepower (560 Kilowatts) as well as 752 pound-feet (1.020 Newton-meters).
This is possible only when the AMG Dynamic Plus Package is used to put the car in Race Start mode and activate the model’s boost function. The sedan, which will debut alongside other all-electric Mercedes models at the Munich Motor Show this year, can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.4 seconds. The standard output of the sedan is 649 horsepower (483 kW) with 700 lb-ft (949Nm) of torque. Mercedes does not provide any information about its 0-60 times. The top speed of the car is 155 mph (249 km/h), which is another AMG Dynamic Plus feature.
AMG-specific motors provide the power for the AMG EQS, but the car also features several modifications by the performance brand. AMG engineers have completely redesigned the rear axle beam, motor mountings and subframe. These are unique to this variant. AMG Performance models were used to create the wheel carriers and control arms.
Dual-motor AMG EQS power the car and AMG-tuned all wheel-drive system. Standard features include 9-degree rear-axle steering. There are five modes of drive: Comfort, Comfort, Sport and Sport+. Individual is the only one. Comfort is concerned with maximising range while Sport and Sport+ are focused on optimizing the car’s performance.
The AMG Sound Experience is available to accompany the different drive modes. This acoustic component adds life and performance to the car’s specs. It tailors the interior and exterior audio experience. There are three sound options available to drivers: Sport, Balanced and Powerful. You can also choose unique sounds for Race Start mode or an AMG welcome sound.
A three-mode regenerative braking system is adjustable through steering-wheel-mounted paddles, which feed a 107.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The brand now has the ability to update the battery management software via over-the air updates.
An AMG high-performance brake system features 17-inch front brake discs with six-piston brake calipers and provides stopping power. Standard AMG alloy wheels measure twenty-one inches. However, there are optional 21- and 22 inch designs. An AMG high performance ceramic composite brake system is also available. This can be ordered with red front or rear brake calipers. You can also choose the Executive Rear Seat Package with heated massaging seat.
The standard equipment for the interior is the dash-spanning MBUX hyperscreen. The instrument cluster features AMG-branded displays and functions that are exclusive to the performance model. Flat-bottom AMG Performance steering wheels, AMG sport pedals, AMG branding at the door sills, AMG floormats and carbon-fiber trim are all included. The dash and doors are decorated with red topstitching, while AMG seats help keep passengers in their place.
Mercedes packed the AMG EQS full of amenities, including a heated steering column, heated rear seats and heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats. There’s also a panoramic sunroof, the Winter Package (heated windshield washer system and windshield), six USB-C ports and the Burmester3D sound system. You’ll also find the most recent driver-assist and safety features.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS is expected to arrive at US dealers in the first half of next year. We don’t yet know the pricing information. Mercedes has not yet specified the pricing information, but customers can expect to pay a substantial premium over the regular EQS starting price. We expect it to start at around $100,000. Its range is also unknown. On a gentle WLTP test cycle, the EQS can travel up to 478 miles (770 km) with a single charge. Mercedes claimed that quick-charging could give the AMG EQS 186 miles (300 km) of range in as little as 15 minutes.
