2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS debuts with a new face and steering wheel

A new exterior color is available and there are more options for upholstery colors.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS450 4MATIC comes with a refreshed look that gives the coupe-inspired sedan a modern design and tweaked tech. The company has not yet discussed pricing, but sales in the United States will begin in early 2022.

The 2022 CLS comes standard with AMG Line styling packages on the exterior. This package includes different side sills as well as bits of gloss black trim. The front bumper of the sedan has been updated with a flowing design for the inlets at the lower fascia. Also, the front splitter is now made from chrome. The modified grille features a three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz star design with a chrome-glass finish. The current LED headlights have a clear outer corner rather than amber. The back has chrome trapezoidal exhaust tips. Between the pipes is a simulated diffuser.

Starling Blue Metallic can now be used as an exterior paint color. For the 19-inch wheels, there are new multi-spoke and five-twin-spoke designs. You have two color options for the 20-inch pieces: High-Gloss Black or Tremolite Grey.

The 2022 CLS’s interior features a modified steering wheel with capacitive sensor controls for the vehicle’s features. It also has Nappa leather cover. Open Pore Brown Walnut, and High-Gloss Grey Wood are available as additional trim options. New leather upholstery options include two-tone Neva Gray/Magma Grey, and Sienna Brown/Black.

The CLS 450 is equipped with a turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-6 with an integrated starter generator mild hybrid system. The combustion engine produces 362 horsepower (270 Kilowatts) as well as 369 pound-feet (599 Newton-meters). The starter-generator is capable of producing up to 21 horsepower (16 kW) or 184 lbft (250 Nm), respectively. From an automatic transmission to an all-wheel drive system, the powertrain can run through a nine speed manual.

Mercedes only announced the changes to the CLS450 4MATIC in its announcement. The company replied Motor1.com to questions about other variants.
