It is the fastest, most street-legal Cayman you’ve ever seen.
Although the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS has been revealed, its development was not exactly secret. Porsche even told us how fast the new GT4 RS laps Nurburgring – 7 mins 4.5 seconds if you didn’t see it. We now know the reason it does such a great lap.
The standard GT4’s 4.0 liter engine doesn’t have a GT3 derivative. It spins at 8,000 rpm and produces 414 horsepower (309 kW). Although it’s not slow, Porsche claims that the GT4 RS can reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds – a quarter-second faster than the GT4. It tops out at 196 miles per hour, which Porsche has already revealed on the Nordschleife lap times. It’s almost 24 seconds faster than the GT4 and only a few seconds slower than the 911 GT3. This new 718 Cayman GT4 RS GT4 is no joke, folks.
Weight and Balance
The engine is just one part of Porsche’s latest RS model’s performance punch. Porsche engineers were able to trim 49 pounds off the GT4 RS while keeping it street-friendly. Carbon fiber is used in the front fenders and the hood made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The result is a curb weight of 3,227 pounds (1,464 kilogram). The 718 Cayman GT4 RS has a power-toweight ratio of 6.5 lbs.
If you don’t have the ability to use it, power is useless. This is the next chapter of the RS book on performance. This transmission is only available with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission. It funnels power to the rear wheels via paddle shifters or the stalk located in the center console. The RS is just a little lower thanks to a track-focused suspension that adjusts using springs, dampers and sway bars. For tighter precision, the components are connected to each other using ball joints. The first Cayman-made use of center-lock wheels is also available.
A slew of wings and vents
The GT4 RS is more aerodynamic than the standard GT4. It has a fixed rear wing with swan neck that allows for better airflow. The underbody has been optimized for improved airflow with a rear diffuser and an adjustable front diffuser. side blades also contribute to this effect. The GT4 RS is set up in Racetrack-specific Performance mode and offers 25% more downforce than the GT4.
The 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS will be available in the USA next summer. It comes with a starting price at $141,700 and a $1350 delivery fee.
