2022 Subaru WRX Launches on August 19, New Teaser Image Revealed

It appears very familiar.

The Subaru WRX has been a standard in Subaru’s lineup. Now, the company will be giving it a complete refresh starting in 2022. Subaru has been teasing the model already, but spy shots show that there’s not much to hide. The sedan will get an evolutionary design upgrade from Subaru. We won’t have to wait long to see the full design.

Subaru today announced that the next-gen WRX will make its debut at the New York Auto Show on Thursday, August 19. Subaru didn’t say when the premiere would be, but it said that it would stream it live so you could watch it from the comfort of your own bed. Subaru is likely keen to unveil the new sedan, as it had originally planned to do so in 2020. However, the company was unable to confirm this.

Subaru has released a second teaser for the WRX, but it doesn’t reveal too much. The car is moving through dirt, which kicks dust into the air. This obscures much of it. Only the greenhouse and a small portion of the rear quarter panel are visible. Although they are similar to the current car’s design, their styles are different. The C-pillar drops from the roof to reach the quarter panel, and has an upward kick in the rear side windows.

When it arrives, the 2022 WRX will look completely different. The model’s engine will be a turbocharged version of the FA24 flat-four turbocharged turbocharged flat-four engine that is used in the Outback, Legacy, Ascent. It produces 260 horsepower (194 Kilowatts) as well as 277 pound-feet (376 Newton meters) of torque in these models. Subaru could modify the engine for the WRX to produce even more power in this popular performance model.
