2022 Toyota Hilux Revo Sport is the Street Tacoma You Can’t Have

Perhaps it’s just better this way.

The new Toyota Hilux is not available in the United States. Although the Tacoma looks very similar, it has different bones so modifications are not possible. This means that if you are sitting outside your Tacoma in Virginia and reading this, don’t stop dreaming.

Maybe that’s a good thing, as these two Hilux Revo GR Sport models for Thailand are… interesting. The Hi-Floor version actually isn’t terrible.
Hi-Floor
It is just a trick to call it four-wheel-drive, which means that the Lo-Floor can be – you guessed correctly – two-wheel-drive.
Toyota Both trucks are more sports car-like in appearance, and performance. Both models have the same exterior features: flashy graphics, a new nose with a body colored grille and special wheels. A GR interior makeover includes lots of smoke-silver trim and red stitching.
We draw your attention to the GR Sport Lo-Floor first for two reasons. It is rare to see a street truck made by an automaker in a world that values off-roading pickups. Two-wheel-drive Hilux GR Sport has a modest body kit, with side skirts, and black trim. This is what a sporty truck needs. It has a 23 millimeter-lower suspension. It has a nearly one-inch drop around the truck, but the truck still has enough wheel space to allow a Yaris through.

This is the second reason why the Lo-Floor attracts our attention. Although we don’t like larger wheels, the Lo-Floor’s 17-inch wheels on low-profile tires is hilariously out of place for this truck. It could be the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner’s replacement.

The GR Sport Hi-Floor also has a few additional items. You’ll find fender flares and a black sport bar with led lighting. Step boards are also included. The upgraded suspension has new monotube shocks. The wheel upgrade is for 18-inch wheels with wider tires. These are still a little too small for the Hilux but they’re clearly the most proportionate of all the new GR Sport models.

The GR Sport Hi-Floor, Lo-Floor, and a variety of Hilux models are already available in Thailand. The Lo-Floor starts at 889,000 Thai baht, while the Hi-Floor starts at 1,299,000 Thai baht. This is roughly equivalent to $27,000 or $40,000.
