2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone Revealed – Luxury Trim Receives Standard Hybrid

Long gone are the days of pickup trucks being nothing but workhorses with basic engines. A Ford F-150 Limited can be purchased for $73,000, even without checking any options. Toyota wants to be part of the luxury segment for its third-generation Tundra with a new luxury trim. reported that Capstone is the leader in food service, packing all the bells & whistles with its standard hybrid powertrain.

What do you get? Chrome, lots and lots of it. Side mirror caps and door handles are adorned with shiny chrome. The massive mesh grille and huge “Tundra” lettering at the tailgate make the front grille stand out. The most prominent use of chrome is the 22-inch wheels. This set represents the largest Toyota has ever installed on a full-size pickup truck.

The top-spec trim adds chrome, but there is more. You also get automatic deployable running boards that welcome you into the luxurious cabin. The Tundra’s flagship model gets leather upholstery in black and white, as well as real wood inserts on its dashboard. You will be greeted by an illuminated Capstone logo at the dashboard’s passenger side when you open the doors.

Standard equipment includes the panoramic moonroof and power bed step. Toyota will install acoustic windows on the front doors to make it stand out from other Tundra models. For a smoother ride, buyers can choose rear self-leveling air suspension at an additional cost.

The hood badge (chrome) denotes that the Tundra Capstone is equipped with the iForce Max hybrid powertrain. The Tundra Capstone boasts a strong 437 horsepower and 583 pound feet (790 Newton-meters), of torque. An electrified twin-turbo V6 transmits power to the road via a 10-speed automatic transmission. It can tow 10,340 pounds.

The Capstone is available only in CrewMax configuration, with a 5.5-foot mattress. It can also be painted in the following colors: Supersonic Red Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic and Blueprint. The range topper will cost over $70,000, although the 1794 quality with the hybrid is $61,000.

This spring, Toyota dealers will carry the 2022 Tundra Capstone.
