BMW stated in April that it had no plans to introduce an M version to the 4 Series Gran Coupe. Alpina, a brand now owned the Bavarian automobilemaker, felt the four-door coupe deserved a faster version. Now, the 2023 B4 Gran Coupe is ready for the public. The performance vehicle was photographed a few times during its development phase.
The 20-inch wheel set is the most notable news in terms of appearance. Alpina’s iconic 20-spoke wheel design is now reinterpreted in the Alpina Classic set. Each wheel is only 26.5 pounds (12 kg) in weight, which allows for better ride quality and reduced rotational mass. The stylish four-door coupe looks great with other small visual tweaks like a front spoiler or a rear spoiler.
But you are likely more interested in the underside of the car. The 3.0-liter straight-six engine produces 495 horsepower (or 364 kilowatts) at its peak, placing the B4 Gran Coupe between the M3/M4 regular BMW M3/M4 or the Competition models. The power is channeled to the wheels by an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It takes just 3.7 seconds to sprint from 0 to 62 miles an hour (0-100 km) and the highest speed is 187 mph (312 kph).
Alpina’s Sport Suspension is another hardware upgrade to the 4 Series Gran coupe. Buchloe-based Alpina claims it has made significant changes to the suspension and chassis calibrations, and achieved a high-level of driving dynamics without compromising ride comfort.
The four-door coupe comes standard with Pirelli P Zero high performance tires with a manufacturer’s code ALP. This indicates that the tire was specifically designed for the B4 Gran Coupe. Alpina recommends the Pirelli Sottozero Series II LP tires for winter driving. Alpina has begun accepting orders for the new B4, with deliveries starting in July. With current exchange rates, the starting price includes Germany’s 19 percent VAT. This translates into roughly $102,000.
