2023 Audi A4 Avant makes a spy photo debut with dual exhausts

This will be the final generation of the A4 with an exhaust.

Audi has announced that 2022 is just around the corner, and 2025 will mark the end of the production cycle for all new models powered by combustion engines. Markus Duesmann, the boss of the A4 made the disclosure in January to Germany’s Manager that the midsize sedan would abandon gasoline and diesel engines by 2030.

The replacement for the B10 generation will likely debut in this form, and only in EV. Our spy photographers captured the next-gen model in its more practical Avant body style. Although the luxury wagon appeared to have the final headlights and production body, the rear lighting clusters look very basic.

Ingolstadt’s posh wagon appears to have lost the Quattro-inspired design that the current model shares the supermini. This gives the front fascia a cleaner appearance. Although the headlights are a bit slimmer, we believe they will retain the same look as the B10 model’s LED graphics.

The singleframe grille isn’t any larger than it is today. It actually looks a little smaller because Audi made room on the bumper for a taller, lower grille. The bumper’s sides are adorned with thin vertical inlets that peek through the camouflage.

While the profile on the sides is similar, the swirly camouflage masks redesigned character lines as well as other details that distinguish the A4 from the B9 generation. It will likely be roughly the same size as the current model and have an unmistakable shape.

Looking back at the rear, you will see that the taillights appear wider than Audi would like us to believe. There are cutouts in Audi’s tailgate for white reverse lights. The LED light bar could be hidden behind the bulge that runs from one taillight into the other. However, it remains to be determined. Dual exhausts hint at a more powerful version the long-roof A4, perhaps a diesel, judging from the towbar.

Audi is expected to offer its 3Series competitor with the next generation of gasoline engines and diesel engines. They will be electrified to meet stricter EU emissions regulations. This will happen through mild-hybrid technology and a plug in hybrid model that has a larger battery, which allows for longer ranges with zero emissions. It is possible to make an E-Tron fully electric derivative.

In late August, Auto Motor und Sport published a report detailing the VW Group’s plans to gradually drop the manual gearbox. According to reports, the next Tiguan, Passat, and possibly the Skoda Superb will come without a clutch pedal. It would also make sense for the A4’s automatic-only transmission for the B9.

The RS4 Avant is a higher-ranking model and has been confirmed to have a plug in hybrid powertrain. There’s also rumours about an electric version. Rumours abound about Audi’s plan to move the A4 to MQB to save $1 billion. This means that the C_Class fighter will likely stick to its MLB architecture, longitudinally mounted engines, and C-Class fighter.

We aren’t expecting an official debut as this is only the first batch. A premiere is expected in the second half of 2022.
