The livestream begins at 12 PM EDT/ 4 PM GMT.
After seven generations of the Corvette, Chevrolet made a major change to the formula. They moved the engine behind the seats in the Corvette. It has been just over two years. It’s time to find the next evolution of the C8. The company sporting the bowtie emblem will soon unveil the Z06, the first high-performance version.
Chevy has not released any teasers about the hotter ‘Vette, despite several. A recent preview of the Z06 revealed that it will have an impressive 8,600 rpm Redline. This is a widely-recognized flat-plane crankshaft V8 with over 600 horsepower. Spy shots of prototypes show an aggressive design and more aero.
The coupe and convertible versions of the mid-engined sports car will be available in two body styles: coupe and convertible. It is expected to have suspension modifications and larger tires. The Z06’s rubber was tested earlier this year on 21-inch rear wheels and 345/25 Michelin tires. This is the same vehicle that the original Lamborghini Countach used back in the 1970s. These tires are the largest ever fitted to a production vehicle to make the Corvette’s spicy interior as planted as possible.
Camouflaged prototypes were seen wearing a huge rear wing. However, Chevy released an official image that showed a Z06 with a spoiler. This could indicate that the Corvette’s boosted version will come with an aero pack to provide additional downforce at its rear axle. This strategy is not surprising considering Porsche’s 911 GT3 and GT3 Touring with subtle styling.
We still have a lot to learn about the Z06 so we are looking forward to tonight’s reveal to find out all the details. Chevy has created a 30-minute feature film called “Putting the World on Notice”. Interviews with engineers and designers involved in Z06 will be part of the film. This will give you a chance to get some juicy information about the sports car.
Chevy has confirmed that the Corvette Z06 will go on sale in 2022. Although pricing details are not known, considering the price premium that the front-engined C7Z06 received over the base model we might expect to see a starting price above $85,000. The base Stingray coupe starts at $62,195, with destination fees.
