Although the electric workhorse can be seated in two or three places, it is not going to the USA.

The 2023 Volkswagen ID’s passenger version is a popular choice. Buzz has received most of the attention. Europeans can also get the Cargo with two to three seats and a large load area behind them. This is separated by a partition wall. It comes standard with one sliding door, on the right. However, the electric workhorse is configurable with a second sliding doors if you want to pay more.

Although prototypes were seen with barn doors, the ID. The Buzz Cargo seen here has a large tailgate, much in the same style as the regular model. The commercial version has a load sill that is slightly wider (1,938mm / 76.3in) and a slightly higher drag coefficient (0.29). They have the same wheelbase at 2,988mm (117.6in) and both stretch to 4,712mm (185.5in) long. The width is identical at 1,985mm (78.1 inches).

Optionally, the partition wall can be equipped with a window or an opening that allows you to place items. The load area can hold 650 kg (1,433 lb) and is large enough to fit two euro pallets. The cargo area measures 3,900 liters (137.7 cubes) and the vehicle’s gross weight is 3,000 kg (6.6114 lbs).

VW has installed lashing rings on both the floor and side walls to secure loads in the rear compartment. There are five USB-C ports on the smartphone, one of which is located in the rearview mirror mount. The cargo and passenger models have two cup holders under the infotainment. However, the commercial version has two more in front of A-pillars.

The ID and two-seat models are best. Buzz Cargo will offer a 1.4-liter storage space between the seats. This is actually a removable container that you can quickly remove and then put back in. The cargo area has wood flooring, and the front features what VW calls a “robust floor covering”. This is the upper-spec version with two-tone appearance. The base van, however, has a monochromatic finish and magnificent 18-inch steelies.

The cargo model can get a variety of optional equipment. These include exterior ambient lighting, an electrical tailgate, matrix LED headlights, and a folding trailer towbar. The rearview camera should be standard, but it is not. Electrically folding and heated mirrors can also be added. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity are also available on wheels up to 20 inches.

It has the same rear electric motor that powers the passenger model. It produces 201 horsepower (150 kW) as well as 310 Nm (229 Lb-ft) of torque. The ID. Buzz Cargo’s 82-kWh battery pack (77 net kWh) can be charged at 170 kW. However, there is no information on the range. They have a 11.1-meter turning circle, and a speed limit of 90 mph (145 km/h).

The 2023 Volkswagen ID is available for pre-order in Europe starting May. After entering production in Hannover Germany, in the first half year, Buzz Cargo will launch this fall. This applies to the passenger model as well, and the California camper follows in 2025.
