WT and RST trims will be available in 2024, with an estimated price range of $41,600 to more than $100,000.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup is not the first to be electrified. Although it’s not the first electrified pickup to be made by General Motors, the numbers suggest that it might be the most important. The Silverado EV has many clever features truck lovers will love, even if you don’t look at the numbers. It’s also not bad looking.
Let’s get to the numbers, they are impressive. Chevrolet claims 400 miles of range with a single recharge thanks to the most powerful Ultium battery pack ever created. Dual motors produce 664 horsepower (495 Kilowatts) or 780 pound-feet (1.063 Newton-meters), respectively. Chevy claims that the pickup can reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds if it is set to Wide Open Watts (yes, WOW).
DC fast charging at 350kW can reclaim 100 miles in just 10 minutes. If you prefer towing, the Silverado can haul a trailer of 10,000 pounds or 1,300 pounds. Not bad, Chevrolet.
WT or RST?
This is where we need slow down the pace. The Silverado EV will be available in the base Work Truck (WT), and as a flagship RST version. Although the RST is the only model we have, there are some significant overlaps with the WT. The entry-level truck still has the 400-mile range and fast charging capabilities. Although power is decreased, we doubt that anyone would be able to ignore the 510 horsepower (380 kW), and 615 lbft (834 Nm). The towing limit drops to 8,000 pounds. However, Chevrolet will soon introduce a WT fleet version which can tow up 20,000 pounds.
The RST offers features like rear-wheel steering and automatic adaptive air suspension. Super Cruise is also available. There’s even a configurable pickup bed that can be fitted with a Multi-Flex Midgate. We are aware that some of you see shades of Chevrolet Avalanche’s Silverado Electric Vehicle’s design.
Chevy’s announcement made no mention of the Avalanche’s old model, which is a curious oversight. However, the similarities in the styling don’t end there. The bed features a pass-through midgate and additional functionality. Silverado EV RT has a cargo floor length of 10’10” when the rear seats are folded and the Multi-Flex tailgate is deployed. This is nearly twice the length of the 5-foot 11-inch standard bed.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find more familiar-yet-different design cues. Both trims have digital displays, but the RST has a 17.0-inch central screen and an 11-inch digital instrument monitor. The RST offers a heads up display that spans 14 inches. Although the WT is not as detailed – Chevrolet won’t share these details on its entry-level truck, it does have its own pair digital screens.
The new Ultifi Linux-based software platform is available to both trucks. It was developed by GM in-house and can be updated frequently. Both trucks still offer manual controls for common items like radio and climate control. Only in the RST can you have hands-free vehicle starting by simply having an enabled device with you when you enter.
Ultium Advantages
The Silverado EV has an additional storage option in the form a locking eTrunk. You can configure the space to hold specific items. The RST has a modular console that provides nearly seven gallons of storage. All Silverado electric vehicles, WT and RST, are crew cabs with more interior space to allow taller adults to comfortably sit in the front or back. This is due to the fact that the design uses GM’s Ultium platform and pushes front seats forward while rear seats are further back.
The Silverado EV stands out from the rest of its combustion-powered siblings in terms both style and technology. The RST and WT trims have a sleeker body than the Silverado. They also feature the PowerBase charging system that has 10 outlets and 10.2kW each. If needed, the system can also power toys and tools as well as an entire house. Silverado EV is capable of charging other EVs , just like a Blue Oval competitor.
Price and Availability
Silverado’s EV production is still more than a year away, so don’t be impatient. According to Chevrolet, the Silverado EV WT will arrive in spring 2023 and the RST in fall 2023. Chevrolet claims that the Silverado EV WT will not include RST, but instead a fully-equipped First Edition, which will retail for $105,000. This excludes a $1,695 destination fee. The WT will be priced at $41,595 including destination, but Chevy does not specify whether that includes the 400-mile battery. Additional Silverado Silverado Electric Vehicle trims will be available once production begins. They will range in price from $40,000 to more than $80,000, with at minimum one being a Trail Boss.
More information on the Silverado EV will be available over the coming months, but Chevrolet will open reservations starting at 1:00 p.m. EST on January 5. This article will go live 45 minutes before the deadline, so chances are you can make a Silverado Electric Vehicle reservation now.
