2024 GMC Hummer EV-SUV SUV Gets Its Broad Bod for March Madness

It will not be available for sale until the early 2023.

We knew that an SUV would soon be on the scene when we first heard about the GMC Hummer E-V pickup . GMC teased the electric SUV a while back. The 2024 GMC Hummer E-Vehicle SUV is here! It combines all the cool tech and performance of the truck with a lot of classic Hummer H2 nostalgia.

The first question we’ll answer is likely the most common. The SUV has the same three-motor electric layout that the pickup. A lower-priced, two-motor version is also available. The pickup won’t have the same punch, but the SUV is equipped with a tri-motor Hummer EV SUV that can produce up to 830 horsepower (619 kilowatts). This is a decrease from the truck’s 1,600 hp (746kW), but it still has 11,500 pound-feet (15.592 Newton-meters) of torque.

That’s torque at wheels. Typical measurements are taken at the engine. There is some grey area when measuring the Hummer because it has multiple internal-combustion engines. To compare apples to apples, the wheel torque rating should be equal to a shaft rating of approximately 1,000lb-ft (1356 Nm). This puts the Hummer SUV on par with heavy-duty diesel pickups. It is also impressive for luxury SUVs.

You’ll find the exact same interior layout for the SUV with five passengers as the truck. The rear section, which is clearly new, includes a large cargo area and a mounted spare. Expect to see the Enhanced Super Cruise, four-wheel-steer Crabwalk Mode and Extract Mode as well as the explosive Watts To Freedom launch modes. Three-motor Hummers will achieve a 0-60 speed of just 3.5 seconds while cruising the streets. GMC claims that the Hummer SUV should be the most approachable and most comfortable. It also has the best departure angles and approaches.

The Edition 1 model is for those who want maximum bling. It comes standard with 22-inch wheels and customizations galore. It’s also available with Extreme Off-Road, which swaps big wheels for 18-inchers wrapped on aggressive 35-inch tires. This package enhances Hummer’s offroading capabilities with an eLocker front and virtual rear lockers as well as heavy-duty half shafts, hard-duty underbody cameras and, for the protection of vital areas and rock sliders, skid plates. GMC will launch over 200 accessories.

GM’s Ultium platform will be below, regardless of trim. The exception being the entry-level model, which uses a 400v system. The range is between 250-plus miles in the base trim and 300-plus in the other trims. The Extreme Off-Road package will reduce range to 280-plus mi, but GMC reminds us that these are only preliminary estimates. There’s still plenty of time to make changes, with the Hummer SUV set for release in just two years.

The Hummer SUV is similar in this regard to the pickup. Edition 1 arrives first with a price starting at $105,595, and $110,595 with Extreme Off Road package. The Hummer EV 3X, 2X, and 2X will follow in spring 2023. The tri-motor 3X starts from $99,995 while the dual-motor 3X, which produces 625 horsepower (466 kW), starts at $89,995. The dual-motor EV2 will arrive in spring 2024 for $79,995.
