Two of the coolest features of the mid-engine Vette are explained in a new video.
The Chevrolet Corvette has been completely redesigned for 2020. The mid-engine platform is finally used. It also has an eight-speed, dual clutch automatic gearbox. The launch control function is now even more exciting and there is a video explaining how to use it. The car also now has a burnout mode to warm the tires. But that’s another story.
Before we go into the details of activating the launch control, be sure to visit MotorTrend to view their exclusive video (which is not embeddable). You can click on this link, either at the bottom of the page or the source link at its end.
It does more than just burnouts.
Let’s talk about the launch control. This is not rocket science, and you will be familiar with it if you have used other Chevrolet products that include launch control. These are the steps.
Corvette C8 – Tech Details:
- Select Track mode and put the car into Drive
- Double-tap to turn off the electronic stability control (ESC).
- The Performance Traction Management menu (PTM) will be displayed on the instrument cluster.
- Choose from one of the five modes available (Wet, Dry Sport I, Sport II or Race).
- Launch control works with all modes so there’s no reason to be concerned
- You can brake using your left foot and then floor the gas pedal with your right foot.
- Once the revs settle to 3,500 rpm, release the brake.
To get even better results, warm the tires. The new ‘Vette has a “burnout mode” that is easy to use. Simply put the car in Drive, hit the brakes and pull the paddles on both wheels to open the transmission’s clutches. After you’re done, simply release the paddles and let the gas pedal drop. A controlled wheel spin will ensue. When you feel satisfied, release the throttle.
