It is a combination of a motorhome with an apartment.
Autonomous driving is the future of motoring. Germany’s Erwin Hymer Group has developed the Galileo concept, which allows you to envision what an RV could look like if a steering wheel was no longer necessary. It’s like a tiny apartment that moves down the highway.
Hymer envisions the Galileo being a modular vehicle. The electric powertrain would be housed in a flat chassis, with the body being attached to the top. This layout, according to the company would allow for greater customization of the interior living space.
Hymer has more campers
The other benefit of using autonomous technology and an electric motortrain is the lack of a dashboard and physical controls. This allows for more space to be created within the same footprint. That means more space for people inside.
Hymer’s video explains how this can be a great way to get your vacation started as soon as you drive off the road. Occupants travel in a home-away from-home equipped with all the amenities they need until they reach their destination.
New Atlas says that Hymer uses the Galileo concept to help reimagine motorhomes. According to the company, people could rent an RV for a particular trip and customize it according to their requirements. After the journey is done, return the RV to Hymer. The business could then remove the upper pod section of the body. This would allow the next group to customize the interior layout.
Hymer is not the only company speculating on how autonomous tech could impact the van market. Suzuki will debut the Hanare Concept at Tokyo Motor Show. It is a cottage-like room on wheels, according to the company.
