Mazda3 Turbo with AWD Revealed in Mexico With 227 HP and 310 LB-FT

A manual gearbox is not visible.

Mazda USA posted a YouTube video announcing the July 8 unveiling of their turbocharged Mazda3. However, Mexico’s neighbors couldn’t wait. Mazda Mexico’s YT account has the more powerful version of the compact hatchback. The company’s regional president went through the details.

The 2021 Mazda3 has a turbocharged gasoline engine. It produces 227 horsepower and 310 pound feet (420 Newton-meters) torque. These numbers may seem familiar because they can be found in the Mazda6 or the CX-5.

It only works with a six speed automatic transmission, sending power to both wheels. Although it is not clear at this time whether the Mazda Mexico output numbers will be applicable to the United States, there shouldn’t really be any significant differences.

The car is almost identical to the regular Mazdaspeed 3 model, despite the larger internals. The car comes fully equipped in Mexico, with a Bose 12-speaker sound system, an electric sunroof and 18-inch wheels. It also has automatic LED headlights. The vehicle will go on sale in Mexico starting July 20, and will be available in Grand Touring or Signature trim levels. Prices start at $489,900 and $529,900, respectively. This works out to approximately $22,000 for the base trim, and $23,800 for a fancier variant.

Zoom-Zoom fans have been waiting since the launch of the new generation of the 3 at the end 2018 for Mazda more power. Now they finally get a stronger engine. Although it isn’t a hot hatch, it’s a significant step in the right direction. A manual would be more practical given the performance-oriented nature the car. However, you only have two pedals. Mexico will soon have a sedan version.
