Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Attain Terminal Velocity on A Runway

Spoiler alert! It’s quick.

Mondays can be difficult so we were excited to receive a notice from Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds about a new video. We were thrilled to learn that it was an extremely rare and fast Lamborghini Aventador doing a top-speed race. We discovered something else: the reigning Nurburgring production car champion would not be running the entire 2.7-mile Florida runway that Johnny Bohmer uses. It would instead open its taps for only 2.3 miles.

Why is the run shorter? Although we aren’t sure, the Aventador SVJ’s listed top speed is 217 mph. This makes it one of our fastest cars ever seen on the runway. We believe the additional runway was necessary because we expect speeds well above 200 mph when we shut down at 2.3 miles.

The Lambo is a beast. The Lambo pulls a smooth launch pulling almost a full g, with the all-wheel-drive system making use of the SVJ’s 759 horsepower. The naturally-aspirated V12 of 6.5-liters sounds like an orchestra of angels. This marks the end of an era when turbochargers are still available and electrification is still a viable option. The hypercar can pull hard up to 190 mph at which point acceleration begins to slow down. The steady progress continues beyond 200 mph but it drops to 206 when the Lambo sounds like it is in top gear. The speed continues to climb until it reaches 210 mph at the mile mark.

Although it’s slower than Lamborghini official top speed, it should be noted that the speed was still increasing at the time that the driver lifted off. It’s possible that the SVJ could have reached its full potential if there was more space to run. But, the SVJ can go from a standstill at 210 mph to 210 mph in 53 second. This is not slow by any measure.
