Keep this date in mind: January 14, 2019
Revealed:
Blue Oval’s ultimate pony car is no longer in Los Angeles. However, the silver lining is that we now know when the Ford will be finally released. A 1967 Shelby GT500 is displayed in a box at the California show. It’s accompanied by some cards that represent the Shelby Mustang’s history. The 2020MY Shelby GT500 is the missing piece. This can be seen by the large sign that accompanies the “GT500” logo on January 14.
Ford has confirmed that the car will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2019. We have reached out to Ford. We expect more teasers to be released in the coming weeks to build excitement about the eagerly awaited debut.
It has taken a long time to reveal the car. There have been many spy shots, teasers and rumors, some of which have ended up being false alarms. Although the Mustang’s beefiest Mustang was originally expected to have more than 700 horsepower at the outset, the Ford card on display in L.A. claims that the supercharged V8 will produce “over 650 horsepower.” It is likely that the engine will be paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox which sends all of that power to rear axle. According to unconfirmed information, a manual gearbox is not on the horizon. This will disappoint purists.
Although January 14 falls on the same day as the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS), Ford may be able to display the Shelby GT500 online earlier than usual. We are waiting with bated breath. It’s been a long wait.
