McLaren Senna Sounds Like A Jet In 187-MPH Standing-Mile Sprint

This is a fitting pass considering that it takes place on the former Space Shuttle runway.

The McLaren Senna isn’t seen nearly enough in our real lives. We mean that the car is performing its intended function in real life, as well as in videos such this. Johnny Bohmer PROVING GROVEShas a new clip that shows the Senna taking on the Space Shuttle runway in Florida. It may look familiar because last year, we showed the same car at the same location. This run actually took place at the same. However, showed a speed pass over the 2.3-mile runway. This clip shows a sprint of one-mile.

The Senna also makes quick work of the mile. We often see cars launch very quickly, with full throttle reaching speeds closer to 100 mph. The Senna has launch control activated, and the telemetry shows that the car pulled 1.1g upon launch. This is not bad considering that the Senna is on street tires and that the runway does not have a sticky prepared surface like you would find at a drag track.

McLaren Senna Sounds Like A Jet In 187-MPH Standing-Mile Sprint

Senna-sational:

In five seconds, 100 mph can be reached and 150 mph follows five seconds later. Despite the Senna’s 789-horsepower (588 kilowatt), 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 and light 2,850-pound body, acceleration drops significantly after 160 mph. The speed readout shows 188 mph, but the official trap speed is 187.28.

It’s not the fastest sprint we’ve ever seen on the runway. Although it was modified, the Nissan GT-R hit 215 mph in August. It had 1,100 horsepower. A stock Ford GT also took on the one-mile challenge, reaching 182 mph despite only 647 horsepower. We’ve also seen a stock McLaren speed 215 mph straight-out on the runway. The Senna managed only 208 mph in its previous top-speed trip.

Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds:

There is nothing wrong with the Senna. Although the Senna’s massive wings and aero package make it a difficult machine to corner, they don’t take much off straight-line speed. However, a distance of 187 mph isn’t slow. The best part of the clip is the Senna’s jet-like whine as it blasts down runway. It is a fitting sound for such an environment.
