BMW M4 CSL Exclusively Available with RWD and Automatic Gearbox:

You can expect to lose over 100 kg (220 pounds) in weight compared with a regular M4.

2022 marks 50 th Anniversary of the M Division, so it is a great time to get the CSL badge on a track-focused machine. In the coming months, the Coupe Sport Lightweight treatment will be given to the M4, but sources close to the matter have shared some sad details with .

Let’s begin with the good news. It is believed that the M4 CSL will only come with rear-wheel drive. This makes perfect sense as it is what most purists want in a performance coupe. It’s also the first CSL in nearly 20 years. There were rumors that BMW might offer xDrive, but it doesn’t seem likely.

Now for the bad news. BMWBLOG states that the M4 CSL will only be available in an automatic mode. This is quite disappointing. It could be that the manual gearbox is not able to handle the increased power of the inline-six engine. However, this assumption is only ours. We don’t know if there will be a clutch pedal in the CSL reborn.

The 3.0-liter unit is said to have a significant boost over the 503 horsepower in the M4 Competition. The CSL could be able to produce 550 horsepower, which, when combined with significant weight loss, will make it a true rocket. In spy shots, BMW has revealed that it will take out the rear seats in a drastic diet to lose more than 100 kg (220 pounds).

BMWBLOG claims that the wraps will come off this spring. The M4 CSL is limited to 1,000 units, most of which are destined for the United States. In 2023, BMW will release a smaller M4 CS. We must not forget that the first M3 Touring production vehicle will be available before 2022.

The production BMW Concept XM, a plug-in hybrid V8 with around 750 horsepower, will be revealed in the second half of 2012. Spy shots suggest that the X5M will also be updated this year, following a minor update to the M8 lineup last week.
