Although it might seem like a racing game, the competition is just as real as F1.
As many motorsports were facing delays or cancellations, sim racing saw a huge boost in 2020. Sim racing was able to take advantage of the virtual world for events such as 24 Hours Of Le Mans Virtual. This documentary tells the story of a man’s quest to be the best Mario Kart 64player on the planet.
Mario Kart is one of the most popular video games in the world. Mario Kart 64, which was released in Japan in late 1996 and the United States in early 1997, was the second installment in the series. It was a huge hit with its impressive 3D graphics and support for four players.
Over the years, players have made a competitive Mario Kart64 scene. There are 16 courses and 32 world records. The fastest single lap lap and the best three laps can be distinguished. This video shows Matthias Rustemeyer, a German player, attempting to become the first to hold all these records simultaneously.
Rustemeyer wins 26 of 32 records. Some of the other players in Mario Kart64 form an alliance to stop Rustemeyer from becoming the undisputed champion of all the tracks. It’s amazing that Rustemeyer never appears to have any animosity with his opponents. It’s friendly but very serious competition.
This video is not about a videogame, but it ranks among the top motorsport documentaries. The host tells the story of Rustemeyer’s quest to become the best at Mario Kart64. Rustemeyer is just one lap away from achieving his goal. However, someone else manages to cut a fraction off one of his laps to help him get closer to his goal. You can see the entire clip to find out if Rustemeyer is Mario Kart’s greatest driver.
