Mercedes’ luxurious pickup truck allows you to sleep and prepare meals.
Mercedes caters to outdoor-loving people with its Marco Polo vans. Now it is adding more variety by giving the X Class pickup truck a camper van conversion. The package is not provided directly by Mercedes, but rather, it is provided by Tischer, a German company that specializes in converting pickup trucks into recreational vehicles.
A quick glance at the website reveals that similar conversions are available for many models including the Volkswagen Amarok and Land Rover Defender, Nissan Navaras, Toyota Hiluxs, Isuzu D-Maxs, Ford Rangers, Dodge Rams, and the Toyota Hilux. It’s not surprising that the X-Class is being added to the firm’s portfolio, considering Mercedes’ luxurious workhorse, the Navara.
It features a comfortable sleeping area with a 1.5-meter wide alcove and nearly two meters of headroom. The cabin has plenty of space to accommodate three people and includes a fully equipped kitchen with a three burner gas stove. You can easily convert the three seats into an additional bed if you require it.
The X-Class campervan conversion also includes a fold-away washbasin, a swiveling toilet, and a bathroom that is large enough to accommodate a shower. Mercedes would like to highlight the cabin’s sandwich design which ensures stability and high insulation.
VanEssa is a German company that offers various accessories for campers, including a heavy-duty pull-out modular for the X-Class. It is approximately 250 kg (551 pounds) in weight and comes with a fully-loaded kitchen. There are also cool things like a coolbox and space for your supplies. It has cooking and washing-up capabilities, as well as a second pull-out section with additional storage for your items.
The load compartment is made of teak wood, which resembles a yacht’s deck. This means that water damage will not be a problem. You can even add privacy with the roof tent that has a rear-facing entry.
Mercedes will display the X-Class camper van conversions during the Caravan, Motor, Touristik show in Stuttgart (CMT), January 13-21.
