Rivian R1T Race truck designed to tackle the Baja 1000

Explore the R1T’s adventurous side with an added performance twist.

Rivian hopes to be the first to launch an electric vehicle with its sleek R1T, which it revealed a year ago in advance of the 2020 market launch. We’re excited to see the zero-emissions powerhouse on the streets with its juicy specs, including 750 horsepower, 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and 400+ miles range.

The R1T is a versatile vehicle that offers more than just a fast truck. It also has a maximum towing weight of 11,000 pounds and a wading depth greater than three feet. Rivian’s eagerly awaited launch of the EV has opened up the floodgates for many independent artists who are eager to explore new possibilities with the vehicle, following the company’s camper conversion that was displayed at this year’s Overland Expo.

The RivianOwnersForum wanted the R1T to be even more. They have created a racing version of the R1T that could compete in the Baja 1000. The off-road-ready, electric truck has a huge ground clearance and a strong suspension. It also packs two spare wheels.

It retains the majority of the design elements of the future production model. This would make the most of its highest specification, with the quad-motor setup as well as the huge 180-kWh battery pack. The truck will have a maximum ground clearance (14.1 inches) in off-road mode and approach and departure angles (34 and 30 degrees, respectively). The motorsports version will improve these numbers, and logic suggests that it will lose some weight relative to the road-going vehicle, which is projected to weigh in at 5,886 lbs (2,670 kg).

The commercial success of the regular model will be a key factor in any future derivatives. This model will compete with Tesla Cybertruck, due to be revealed on Thursday, November 21.
