2017 Range Rover Sport is downsized to a 4-cylinder engine

0-60 mph (0-96 kph) takes eight seconds. Is it fast enough for the “Sport” name?

Range Rover Sport isn’t immune to downsizing trends. For 2017, the SUV has received a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine by Ingenium. The SD4 unit produces 240 horsepower (177kilowatts) as well as 369 pound-feet (599 Newton-meters of torque), which allows the SUV to sprint to 60 mph in just 8 seconds. This is 1.2 seconds faster than the 306-hp 3.0 SDV6. The Range Rover Sport can reach speeds of 128 mph (206 km/h) when fitted with the smaller engine.

The price will start at PS59,000. In the UK, the V6-powered model with the same HSE trim will be priced at PS63,000. The four-cylinder Range Rover Sport will have one twin-exhaust tip, while all other engines will have one exhaust on each side.

2017’s model year will also include a 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with 340 hp (225 kW) and 332lb-ft (475 Nm) which allows for a 0-60mph (0-96 km/h) time of 7.1 seconds, and a top speed 130 mph (209 km/h). Land Rover U.K. asks for PS64,400 to purchase the engine in the HSE dynamic trim.

The 2017 Range Rover Sport has two new engines. It also features a 10-inch touchscreen with InControl Touch Pro. This allows for a more minimalist dashboard and integrates some of the physical buttons into the infotainment system. A number of safety and assistance system improvements were made to the model year changes, including InControl Touch Pro, Low Traction Launch and Advanced Tow Assist. Blind Spot Assist, Autonomous Efficient Braking and Intelligent Speed Limiter.

The 2017 Range Rover Sport will be available in the U.K. from December. It will cost PS96,900 for its range-topping 550-hp SVR model. The U.S. model will go on sale in December for $65,650, which excludes $995 destination & handing. The U.S. model will receive the same tech updates as the European counterpart, however the four-cylinder diesel engine won’t be available in the US.
