This video will make it seem like you are afraid to leave your car at the dealership.
It’s always stressful to let someone else drive your car, especially if they are not the driver. It’s difficult to know someone’s driving habits if they are alone. And it can be even more stressful if you have to hand your keys over. There are some people you can trust like the staff at a dealership. It’s now easier than ever to catch someone joyriding in your car at the dealership thanks to dashcams. This case was discovered by Jalopnik.
Although this isn’t the most shocking video we have seen, it shows how a dealer employee took a car for a ride. The most interesting thing about this video is the driver’s complete disregard for the car’s dashcam. Valet Mode is available on the 2016 Chevy Corvette Z06. The entire system can be engaged when the car enters Valet Mode thanks to the front-mounted camera, data logging and stats recording while on the track.
It would be reasonable to think that someone who works at a Chevy dealer would have an understanding of how the system works. Maybe they didn’t care. According to Jalopnik, the dealership “reprimanded the employee.” However, it doesn’t sound like they fired the person. Why not have some fun with a Corvette? There are very few consequences.
The joyride did not end when the car was involved in an accident. These kinds of incidents are becoming easier to capture, thanks to dashcams that have become more popular. These kinds of incidents are not increasing in frequency, but it’s unlikely. They’ve been going on for years, if not decades. People are only now getting caught.
Jalopnik states that the owner has no recourse. The police are unable to do anything except charge the employee of the dealership with speeding.
