VanDOit Builds the First Camper Van for 2020 Ford Transit AWD

This van can be used for both work and fun with its modular system.

Ford now has an all-wheel drive Transit for the 2020 model year. This is good news to the #vanlife community who likes to stray from the beaten track. Although the van’s AWD system isn’t as strong as a conventional 4WD off-road setup, it should be able to reach new places. VanDOit, a Missouri-based upfit firm, already has a build ready for the all-wheel drive model known as the LIV.

VanDOit chooses to go modular when creating camper vans. There are two ways of doing this. This van can be used as a eight-passenger people moving vehicle or a cargo trucker, even when it is not being used for weekend getaways. This van is extremely versatile due to the numerous plug-and-play parts. The most striking feature of the van is its full-size queen bed that can be lifted by a hydraulic lift. The bed is raised so that there is plenty of space for cargo and “garage” beneath. A folding front leaf allows for the addition of a third row of passenger seats.

You can customize the track system in many ways. You can add a second bed to the garage below the queen’s, creating a bunk-bed arrangement that can sleep four. Mini-kitchen modules have a sink, water storage, and a slide-out section to store a small fridge. There are many storage options and a larger kitchen available with a taller fridge. There are heaters and furnaces, removable toilets, and even a trick-stand-up shower that can either be used inside or outside of the van.

Although the modular design isn’t as visually appealing as that found in full-time motorhomes, there’s no denying its multi-functionality. VanDOit estimates that prices range from $59,800 up to $108,800 depending on the way you configure your Ford.
