Airstream enters the campground business with AutoCamp Investment

Camping is for people who don’t like the hassle.

If you love camping but don’t want to spend a weekend outdoors, where can you go? AutoCamp is an experimental hotel chain that lets patrons rent campers rather than rooms. AutoCamp has been working with Airstream to provide lodging since 2016. Airstream now plans to invest in the hotel-campering business. Airstream will now make AutoCamp its exclusive lodging partner.

Airstream and AutoCamp have a partnership that will see them supply a fleet trailer to the company when it opens its Cape Cod East Coast location next year. Airstream will also supply trailers to other AutoCamp properties. The company plans to make announcements over the coming year.

Three years ago, the two companies teamed up for the first time.AutoCampIt opened its second location in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, California.AutoCamp. A fleet of Airstream trailers were used. They all have large bedrooms and spacious living and dining areas. Each trailer is situated on an outdoor living area with a firepit and custom-made outdoor furniture.

Brandon Turkus, our own Brandon Turkus, spent several days at AutoCamp Yosemite. Santa Barara and Russian River Valley are also AutoCamp properties. All the camping necessities were provided without the need to hook up to electricity or take out sewage. Every camper comes equipped with gas- or electric-powered heaters, air conditioner, and all the plates, cups, and flatware you could need.

AutoCamp can be seen as a devaluation of camping, taking out the fun and adventure. Some people enjoy camping but may not have the means to purchase a camper or the right vehicle to haul it. AutoCamp is actually a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors without having to haul the sewage to the dump area or set up a trailer.
