Lexus doesn’t hide its desire to produce a convertible like this.
After rumors swirling for almost a year Lexus finally removes the top from its LC grand touring vehicle to create the new LC Convertible Concept, which will debut at the North American International Auto Show. Although the automaker has not officially confirmed that there is a production version, the announcement states that the vehicle points to the “future Direction” for the lineup. This suggests that dealers could soon receive an open-roofed model.
The LC Convertible Concept looks identical to the current coupe until your eye reaches its roof. With its roof removed, the droptop looks great. This is due to the steeply raked windshield. The top was cut off by Lexus’ designers, requiring them to design a new rear deck. The nacelles are hidden behind the seats. The tail’s central section is flat, but the angular cuts allow it to taper down to reach the fenders.
The roof will be hidden by the cut lines at the back, but there is no top available right now. “It’s an open top concept at the moment, so there’s not a roof yet,” Ed Hellwig, a Lexus spokesperson, told Motor1.com. However, the space seems large enough to accommodate a soft roof.
The interior features a mixture of black and white leather seats. The cabin is adorned with yellow stitching.
Although Lexus does not provide details about the powertrain, it appears that there is nothing to stop either the 5.0-liter V8 engine or the hybrid 3.5 liter V6 from being made available as a convertible. The power roof would increase the car’s weight, which would likely reduce the coupe’s acceleration as well as fuel economy.
Lexus will also unveil the RC F Track Edition, a hardier version of its already sporty coupe.
