Ford has revealed that the 2013 Shelby GT500 will be equipped with the most powerful series production V8 anywhere in the world.
Officially rated at 662 hp (494 kW / 67 PS) and 631 lbft (855 Nm of torque), the supercharged V8 engine (5.8-liter) allows the model to return an EPA-estimated 15 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
According to SVT chief engineer Jamal Hameedi, “Our goal is to create outstanding all-around performance cars, not just stoplight-to-stoplight sprinters. This amazing powerplant has been backed up by a refined chassis tuning, which helps keep the rubber on pavement without punishing drivers spines, and six-pot Brembo brakes that help dissipate speed easily stop after stop.
