Justin Lin, Fast 10’s veteran Fast & Furious director, steps down

Fast X, the latest installment of the series, had just started filming.

Justin Lin, the director of FastX, the tenth installment of the Fast and Furious series, has resigned just days after filming wrapped. Lin announced his resignation as director of the film in a statement shared on The Fast Saga’s social media channels. However, he will continue to be a producer.


“With the support from Universal, I have made the hard decision to step down as director of Fast X while continuing as a producer. We have shot five films over a period of 10 years, which has allowed us to capture the most talented actors and stunts as well as the most thrilling dam car chases. As a child of Asian immigrants, it is a proud honor to have helped build the largest movie franchise in history. The amazing cast, crew, studio, and staff will always be my greatest thanks for all their support and welcoming me into the Fast family. ”

This announcement is somewhat surprising considering that filming for fast X had only started seven days earlier. Although Lin is still listed as the director in the Internet Movie Database, a quick search revealed that he is rumored to be. The announcement does not give any explanation for the decision. Deadline reports that the separation was mutual but could have been caused by creative differences. He is currently unidentified.

Lin is a veteran in the movie franchise having directed more than half of the Fast films. His debut was with The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. This third installment opened in 2006. The fourth, fifth and sixth movies were his next. He then returned to direct F9 The Fast Saga. He was also the writer and producer of F9 and executive producer for sixth and fifth movies.

FastX will be in theaters by May 2023 if everything goes according to plan. The familiar cast will be back, with Brie Larson and Jason Momoa in yet unknown roles. The plot is also unknown.
