Subaru Forester Surprisingly Passes Moose Test

Stability control for rescue.

Yes, we are aware of how terrible the Subie-sized attempt to pass the moose testing lead photo looks. The Forester doesn’t have the performance characteristics of a sports car. The SUV is quite tall and while it has pleasant car-like characteristics behind its wheel, speeding through corners at high speeds is not its forte.

It doesn’t mean it can’t do a deft maneuver once in a while, just like the former high school dance star who could perform a few moves for a few seconds at the 30-year anniversary before succumbing to exhaustion. The Forester is the latest machine that has been subject to the moose test. Its goal is not to run a fast lap time, but to perform a simulated emergency-lane-change maneuver. These things can happen to any vehicle at any time, so it’s a test that really matters.Although the lead photo may look terrible, it is actually quite impressive. The Forester was unable to keep up with the entry speed of 77 km/h (48 MPH) on the first run. However, the failure was not due to the vehicle but rather the driver. The SUV’s stability system intervened excessively due to abrupt inputs, leading to significant understeer.

The electronic assist was able to maintain the mass more efficiently on the second run. With the body moving like an elephant drunk, the Forester successfully passed the test without touching any cones. is faster than the Mercedes AMG A45Stested back in August. Although the Forester didn’t feel as agile, it felt secure and confident all through the run.

The SUV passed the successful moose test and bobbed and weaved its way through the slalom. The Forester’s erratic movements clearly showed that it didn’t like being hustled around corners. The Subie’s slow steering was also cited as a problem. However, again the message was that the vehicle felt safe and confident when maneuvering around corners. The speed of entry was 70 km/h (43 MPH), and it dropped only slightly throughout the course.

Although safe and confident is not a strong combination, it’s hard to find a better family SUV.
