Let us know which one you prefer.
Another day, another supercar drag racing. Today we bring you a battle between a fully stock McLaren and a modified Ford GT tuned and modified by Heffner Performance & Wheels Boutique.
Let’s first take a look at the cars and their performance numbers before we get to the final results. The tuned GT is powered by a 5.4-liter V8 twin turbo engine that Heffner has massaged to produce 1,000 horsepower (746 kilowatts). The motor is mated with a six-speed manual transmission and the car weighs in at 3,450 pounds (1.5565 kilograms).
It is a McLaren 720S factory without any modifications. This supercar from the British company uses a 4.0-liter V8 twin turbo engine that sends 710 horsepower (529 kW) to its rear wheels via a seven speed dual-clutch auto transmission. It is slightly lighter than its rival at 3,180 lbs (1.442 kg).
They meet in a series two races that starts with a rolling start. The two cars seem to be very close during the first run. We can’t tell who the winner is from the footage. We think the GT is ahead by a few inches, but that’s up to you.
Unfortunately, the second run does not give an accurate picture of the supercars’ capabilities. The GT loses traction shortly after launch as it absorbs water. These things can happen in drag racing, especially at night. We will have to wait until a rematch. Drag Times promises that the two cars will be rematches at SEMA in Las Vegas this year.
The 720S is a supercar that’s fast. It has been successful in drag races against a Porsche 911 GT2 RS and a Mercedes AMG GT R.
