Richard Hammond appears to have had an interesting encounter with security personnel at airports.
It appears The Grand Tour is in full advertising mode. Amazon’s motoring series has released a teaser trailer of the second episode. It features Clarkson driving a car and Hammond and May flying an airplane. The destination is Niagara Falls and the starting point is New York City. The car is a brand-new Ford GT.
The continuity thing was also mentioned in the previous episode. It featured Hammond’s famous crash in Rimac. The first episode was supposed to explain why Hammond was on crutches in later episodes. His handicap, at least in the second episode, isn’t only explained but plays a small role in the action.
A quick Google search shows that a flight from New York to Niagara Falls (Ontario) takes just under an hour, while the fastest route by car would take nearly seven hours. As with all the classic Top Gear plane-versus-car races, there will be plenty fluff with Hammond, May, and others to give Clarkson and his car a chance of actually winning. It is New York City so you can add a couple of hours to your flight time just to get to the airport. Clarkson may also experience delays due to New York traffic. It’s a well-known formula. We get to see May pushing Hammond around in a wheelchair at least this time.
Clarkson may also have a segment on the road in a Mercedes-AMG GT GT. This could be a chance to see The Grand Tour’s new driver, if they decide to hire one. Mike Skinner’s American was not a hit with fans. Skinner also tweeted that the bold character wasn’t as developed as he expected.
