Chevrolet has been silent about details so far, which is not surprising.

General Motors removed the covers from the all-new Chevrolet Tahoe, and Suburban a few weeks back. The big SUVs are truly all-new, and this is not because they have new sheet metal. The three-row people movers are supported by an independent rear suspension. A report from GM Authority states that the Suburban will also include the Z71 model.

This isn’t a new concept, but it’s something that it kind of is. Chevrolet unveiled the Z71 Tahoe edition at the Tahoe/Suburban debut. However, it was not a package. GM Authority has reported that Z71 is now a trim for the Tahoe, but not as a package. Bob Krapes, Chevrolet Truck Marketing Director, is rumored to be the source of this information. Given the success of Z71 over the years, there’s no reason for us to doubt that Chevrolet has made the announcement, despite Chevrolet being somewhat evasive about the matter.

What does this all mean for the Suburban? Chevrolet’s Z71 designation is still used for off-roading, so you can expect the same upgrades as a Z71. Although official information is not yet available for the Suburban Z71, we do know that the height-adjustable Air Ride suspension will be standard equipment. Skid plates will be used to protect critical components. The Suburban Z71 will also get a front fascia with better clearance that allows for better approach angles, similar to the Tahoe. A monochromatic exterior treatment and grippy all-terrain tires are also to be expected.

We’re still waiting on Chevy’s more expensive siblings, the GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade. The February 4 unveil of the Escalade is already planned. However, we don’t know if the Yukon will be appearing before or after the Cadillac flagship.
