The coolest grandma in the world?
Don’t believe what people say about age being just an age. There are many downsides to growing older. But, this doesn’t mean that we should stop driving once we reach a certain age. Driving shouldn’t be a chore as long as you’re healthy and able pay attention on the road.
While it is important to have regular health checks after age 60, the elderly should not automatically surrender their driver’s licence. In the past, we wrote about elderly Corvette owners buying Corvettes. Now, we have something entirely different. The car is still a performance car but it’s less extreme than the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI that this sweet 79 year-old lady recently purchased. It’s safe to assume that she is on her fifth Grand Touring Injection in Wolfsburg.
Since she has been driving VWs for 50 years, her love for the GTI is clear. The compact and sporty Golf is an all-rounder that is solid. A standard GTI costs approximately $45,000 in South Africa, depending on current exchange rates. The US-spec model is a bargain at $29,545. The SA-spec Golf GTI model is actually more expensive than the $43,645 GolfR that was sold in the US.
A salesperson shared the footage on social media. The footage was taken at Hatfield Volkswagen in Rivonia on the day of delivery. The old lady’s big smile is evident that she was eager to take the wheel of her new black GTI. We hope that we will be as passionate about cars in our golden years as she was.
