The new generation of electric drivetrains will power it.
The recent agreement between Hyundai & BorgWarner suggests that a new South Korean manufacturer will soon produce an electric vehicle. Auto Express has revealed some details about the battery-powered model that should be in production by mid-2023. Although it’s not yet official, we expect to hear some kind of announcement soon.
According to what we know, Hyundai will produce a city-electric vehicle. BorgWarner will provide an electric drivetrain. The new system will improve on the existing systems. It will include the electric motor and the gearbox in one unit that is easy to install. The new setup is smaller and lighter than the existing electric drivetrains. These are two important characteristics for small EVs.
Auto Express states that the system’s peak power output is 180 horsepower (134 kilowatts), but Hyundai is unlikely to use that much power for small electric cars. The South Koreans could adjust the system’s performance with a smart modular converter to produce around 100 horsepower (74 kW). This will make the new EV comparable to the existing Hyundai city cars that are powered by combustion.
Because a city car is compact in size, there is no room for large batteries. The model will likely use a 40-kWh battery pack. The battery will last for approximately 200 miles (322 km) on a single charge, but fast charging will be possible with a 400-volt architecture.
It is not clear at this time if the new deal will mean that both the Hyundai and Hyundai brands will receive a version the new electric car. However, it seems like a safe bet considering how many models are shared among the two marques. It is possible to have an Ioniq-branded vehicle. The new EV will look like a small crossover, according to the report.
