Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Track Pack Dyno Run Shows Polarizing Result

The outcome should have been positive because of the lighter wheels.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 car is not cheap. The ultimate Mustang costs $73,995 (includes destination) and is more expensive than the Shelby GT350R at 60 grand.

The Carbon Fiber Track Package, which costs $18,500 more for the supercharged Mustang Stang, makes it even more expensive. The track pack’s majority goes to the set exposed carbon fiber wheels, which are sourced from Carbon Revolution in Australia.

won’t break those 17-pound carbon-fiber wheels, and they promise better performance on the track. The carbon-fiber wheels’ weight savings are expected to increase wheel horsepower. How much? This video shows the Dyno Run for a Mustang GT500 stock with Carbon Fiber Track Pack. It returned 677.9 horsepower (505.5 Kilowatts).

Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Track Pack Dyno Run Shows Polarizing Result

A Dyno test on a Shelby GT500 with no carbon-fiber wheels before showed a significantly higher output of 705 horsepower (526 kW) at its wheels. We expected the GT500 to be lighter, but the opposite happened.

We would like to stress that the difference is not an apples-to-apples comparison, despite the discrepancy. The dyno results can be affected by many factors, including tire pressure, operator, and how tightly the car is secured. The machines used in the above comparison are different, which could also be a factor in the results.

All that being said, dyno results don’t prove to be biblical. Unless, of course these cars were measured in the same facility, then the comparison would be valid.
