Corvette C8 Transport Video Shows Challenges Of Delivering 10 Cars

It is not an easy job. The new Corvette makes it more difficult.

Most Motor1.com articles follow the collective we voice. However, this article is mine. It’s not easy to transport 10 cars at once on a truck. I know this because my father did it, my brothers do it, and I was a young boy in Michigan who earned my kindergarten diesel diploma sitting at my dad’s feet, driving a GMC General up our long driveway, loaded with new Corvettes. These rigs can be difficult to load, as you have to stack everything correctly and climb over steel beams at 10 feet. All this while working in tight spaces with only inches. This is for normal cars that have good ground clearance and visibility from their cockpits, not to mention the mid-engine challenges presented by the C8.

This brings me to the latest upload by Morgan Crosbie at YouTube. He was stationed at a Chevroletdealer, Canada. His camera was running during what may have been the last batch 2020 Corvette deliveries for some time. It was a wonderful opportunity to show the world of auto transport and the unique challenges that the C8 presents.

Open transporters are not designed to carry exclusive mid-engine performance cars. They can haul anything from compact hatchbacks to one-ton pickups. This particular rig can haul 10 C8 Corvettes at once. While the overall height of these cars is not a problem, special blocks are required to secure them on the ramps. It is also extremely difficult to open some doors due to the cars’ width.

The C8 is a double win for transport drivers in terms of visibility. The rear of mid-engine cars have poor visibility, but Chevrolet ships 2020 Corvettes with a complete wrap. Most new cars have only limited coverage in some areas. This driver can be seen leaning out of the window as he reverses a Corvette off the truck. However, it takes a lot of spatial awareness and experience to safely maneuver on such a large vehicle. Although I admit that I am biased, what you see here is a trifecta combining science, art, and experience.

Although we don’t know the future of North American manufacturing plants, you can expect to see a portable lot full of cars. It’s hard work getting the new cars to you.
