Jerry Seinfeld Sued for ‘Comedians in Cars’ Creation

Why do people file lawsuits so long after an event?

Last month saw the tenth season premiere of Comedian In Cars Getting Coffee. However, a report by TMZ claims that, the head comedian behind this show, allegedly got the idea from Christian Charles in 2002. It was 10 years ago that Jerry Seinfeld’s strange program launched. Not to mention the six years since. Charles is now suing Seinfeld for an undisclosed amount as well as a mention in the credits.

According to the legend, Charles pitched the idea to Seinfeld in 2002. Seinfeld declined the offer. TMZ claims that documents show Seinfeld met with Charles again in 2011 to discuss the idea and the comedian’s team started putting together plans to make it happen. According to the suit, Seinfeld claimed ownership of the show and wanted a large paycheck. Charles was reportedly then removed from the program by Seinfeld.

Although the internet series began quietly on Crackle, it quickly gained popularity and became a favorite among Seinfeld fans as well as auto enthusiasts. Seinfeld signed a Netflix deal last year that included the show. Although the current season will be the first to air on Netflix, all previous seasons can also be streamed. According to TMZ Charles is earning $750,000 per episode.

We don’t think the lawsuit’s timing is a convenient one, considering the show’s substantial leap from Crackle to Netflix. It is difficult to believe that these grievances were not brought up sooner. TMZ has updated the story to say that Seinfeld’s lawyer called the lawsuit “delusional” while stating that the show was created independently by Seinfeld
