Facelift on VW Polo GTI: First and Probably Last

In the next few days, the official unveiling will take place.

The facelifted Polo was introduced by Volkswagen a few months ago in all trim levels except the top-of-the-line. To replace the old structure of Trendline and Comfortline, the lineup now includes R-Line and Polo models. VW teased the GTI flagship supermini a few weeks ago, promising that the official debut would be before June.

It’s the last day of the month, which means that a debut is likely. However, spy shots will continue with the first (and most likely final) batch of photos featuring a prototype. VW style, the car is disguised in body-colored camouflage so it looks like the. Version pre-facelift It’s not deceiving anyone. It appears that we are seeing a Polo GTI, but it is actually the new hot hatch.

The VW logo is visible at the bottom of the tailgate. The new Golf GTI Mk8 looks similar to the letter “R”, which is found on the backs of the Tiguan R and Arteon R as well as the Touareg R. It’s easy to see the Polo R-Line without the disguise.

Facelift on VW Polo GTI: First and Probably Last

You can guess if there have been any modifications under the hood. Original Polo GTI came with a turbocharged gasoline engine of 2.0-liter capacity, rated at 197 horsepower (320 Nm) and 236 lbft (236 lb-ft). The original Polo GTI was only offered with a 6-speed dual-clutch manual transmission. The clutch pedal was eventually removed.

Apart from reducing the manual gearbox, VW also made a change to the Polo GTI DSG-only Polo GTI’s 2.0 TSI’s output by increasing its power to 204 hp (152 kW), while maintaining the same torque. This is a little more than the Hyundai’s 201 horsepower and the 197 horsepower offered by the Ford Fiesta ST three-cylinder.

We’ll have to wait to see if the GTI facelift will bring any other changes than the usual Polo’s styling and tech updates.
