It was not even close.
The off-road course will decide the battle for supremacy between the Jeep Wrangler, and Ford Bronco. The Bronco’s offroad performance will not be the only thing many will compare to the Wrangler over the next months. TFLcar has been racing both cars on the drag strip in its latest YouTube video.
The electrified Jeep Wrangler4xe is compared to a Ford Bronco with the Sasquatch package. This includes 35-inch tires. The Wrangler’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder is paired with an electric motor, and a 17-kilowatt hour battery. The entire setup produces 375 horsepower. The Bronco produces less power, Ford’s EcoBoost V6 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 335 horsepower. However, the Bronco weighs in at 330 pounds (kilos) more than its Jeep counterpart.
A Toyota FJ Cruiser with Toyota’s V6 260-horsepower engine is also available. The Bronco beats the Toyota in the warmup race. This is a bit of a prediction. The Bronco faces off against the Wrangler in the second race, but it’s not a fair fight. Although the two racers are evenly matched at the beginning, the Wrangler hits its powerband and accelerates, leaving the Bronco behind. The Jeep finishes the race several cars ahead of the Ford.
An Motor1.com video that was posted earlier this week showed the Bronco with the turbocharged EcoBoost inline four losing twice to the Wrangler equipped with the Jeep’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V6. The Bronco was not designed for drag racing. Ford designed the Bronco to be the best in areas where other vehicles can’t go. Ford’s Bronco Raptor will offer more power to those who want it. Although it is not known if the Bronco Raptor will get an upgraded powertrain or not, the Raptor name suggests that there may be more power under the hood.
