It could be worse, but it could be better.

Ford debuted the new Mustang Mach1_ to North American markets in November at Los Angeles Auto Show. But it’s not as if the world hasn’t heard about it. The electric crossover made its European debut in London. In a somewhat ironic twist for an American-made nameplate, European buyers will actually get the Mach-1_ before Americans. It was also a chance to learn more about Mach-E, and Autocar now has a statistic we suspect many people are thinking about a Mustang-branded electric car: weight.

The Autocar report states that the Mach-E can weigh between 4,394 lb (1,993 kg) and 4,890lb (2,218 kg). This makes it the most heavy Mustang ever, but the Mach-E weighs just as much as the 2020 Shelby GT500.

Although the report does not provide any details on Mach-E configurations contributing to weight, it is common knowledge that models with all-wheel drive or larger battery packs will be heavier. This means that Select and Premium editions with rear wheel drive and the standard range will be the lightest. Everything else, including the GT Performance model due to launch in 202100, will probably be around 5,000 pounds.

The vehicle is heavy but not surprising considering its EV bones. Extended range models will have a 98.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. This should give the Mach-E an approximate 300-mile range on certain models in the U.S. The all-wheel-drive Mach-E models will also have two electric motors, whereas the rear-wheel-drive version has one motor. Base models will have a range of approximately 200 miles.

Please note that the above weight range is for Euro-spec models. There will be differences between what North America will receive and what they have. Although the exact differences between the two are not yet known, cars destined for Europe will be equipped with everything from suspension to steering and an all-wheel-drive system that is specifically designed for European customers. Although the basic formula is the same, any weight changes for Mach-E models in America should not have any effect on the car’s overall performance.
