The Ford GT and Ferrari 488 appear to be equally well-matched on paper. But, let’s see how they do in drag racing.
DragTimes travels to Wannagofast’s half-mile drag race in Immokalee. It also takes its Ford GT along. This clip shows the classic Ferrari-Ford track battle. The GT is pitted against the Ferrari 488 Spider. The channel teases that there will be more GT races.
The specs of the GT and 488 Spider are very similar. The GT has a twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 that produces 647 horsepower (482 Kilowatts) as well as 550 pound-feet (745 Newton meters) of torque. It is also equipped with a seven speed dual-clutch gearbox. The Ferrari has a seven speed dual-clutch gearbox and a twin-turbo V8 3.9-liter with 661 horsepower (493 kW) & 560 lbft (760Nm).
We can’t spoil the race, but we can tell that the GT had a difficult start to this race. There is still a lot of wheel spin off the line even in launch mode. You can see the Ford’s performance in the video and whether or not the lack of grip is a problem.
This clip shows the GT’s fastest run of the day at a later point. At quarter-mile, the supercar was able to cover the distance at 133.08 mph (214.2 km/h). It also reached 162.14 mph (261 Kph) after crossing the halfway mark. The Ford’s factory-rated top speed is 216 mph (347.6 km/h). Therefore, the coupe would require a lot more road in order to achieve its maximum velocity.
