It will be made in Poland by Volkswagen.
Volkswagen, Ford formed a partnership to share EV and autonomous technology in 2019. Last year, a new light commercial partnership was announced that expanded the collaboration between the two largest companies in the sector. The agreement will see Volkswagen receive the next-generation Transit Custom and Ford a rebadged Caddy. This has been seen for the first time.
The LCV you see in this gallery looks very much like the Caddy, but it is actually a test mule. Tourneo Connect. This vehicle will be below the Transit Custom or Tourneo Custom LCVs. Although little is known about the changes that this Caddy version will go through before it hits the market, there are visible differences from the outside.
For example, Ford will be changing the front fascia. This will include a new grille, headlights and bumper design. Although the internal graphics and shape of the taillights might be slightly altered, that is all that can be seen in these first shots. You will be able to select from many different wheel designs when the production model is released.
It will be interesting to see how Ford positions the new generation LCVs with regard to pricing. While the Connect family and the Caddy are both available in Europe, Volkswagen tends to be slightly more expensive than Ford. However, that doesn’t mean that the same pricing strategy will be used for the new light commercial vehicles.
Volkswagen will produce both the Caddy and the new Ford Tourneo/Transit Connect. Ford will construct the next Transit and Transporter using the same assembly lines in return.
