Mercedes C-Class Gets Iconic Star Hood Ornament 2018

American buyers won’t be able to add the star-mounted hood to their C-Class any more.

As expected, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class will get a minor update in 2018’s model year. The hood-mounted star, although it is pictured in spy photos, will be removed from the cabin and fascia.

Daimler’s Mercedes star wrapped with Benz’s laurel wreath was first trademarked February 18, 1925. The iconic Mercedes-Benz cars would continue to have the hood ornament on their topsides, from the original 630K up to the more recent CLK. This also includes the C-Class, which was introduced in 1993.Car & Driver reports that Mercedes's Alabama plant is gearing up to sell the Sport styling Car & Driver reports that Mercedes’s Alabama plant is gearing up to sell the Sport styling trim only to American customers in 2018. The German marque has also decided to get rid of the iconic hood ornament. Mercedes will offer a new, larger, grill-mounted Mercedes emblem, which was previously only available to trucks, coupes and roadsters.

This can partly be attributed to automakers’ ongoing pursuit of younger customers. C-Class European buyers will continue to have access to the long-standing hood ornament, but American buyers will need to choose the 2018 EClass, which costs $58,900.

Mercedes-Benz still offers the smoother suspension package that was previously offered on the Luxury trim. However, buyers who want a more elegant ride will have to choose the 2018 C350e which has Airmatic air suspension. 2018 will see the end of the height-adjustable suspension option, which was $1,190 on all C300 models.
