Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Shines On The Streets

The new generation is sleeker and more fashionable than the previous one.

New spy video captures Mercedes’ replacement for the on the road. This one also has its production headlights in position. The redesign seems to have made the SUV less bulky than its current version.

The new GLE-Class will be able to move to the MRA chassis, which is different from other models such as E-Class. This will allow the SUV to shed some weight despite being slightly larger. Exterior design will be more rounded with a variety of LEDs inside. The model’s width is accented by a broad lower fascia. A steeper rear hatch rake will give the standard crossover a more sleek appearance. This curvy appearance will likely be enhanced by a future GLEClass Coupe.

This test mule’s grille has horizontal slats. It is less performance-oriented. As a visual advertising tool, the top AMG versions will sport the Panamericana grille.

Spy shots inside show that the GLE-Class will move with the Mercedes’ lineup to a large digital display in its cabin. The screen would be large enough to display the instruments and flow onto a similar-sized infotainment screen that gives the impression of one continuous piece of glass. There would also be a wide range of driver assistance systems.

GLE-Class will include the new mild-hybrid inline-six turbocharged powerplants from German automaker. These will be available in multiple tunings. One version of the Mercedes models has 362 horsepower, 369 pound-feet torque, and an additional 21 hp from the electric motor. The AMG 53 version retains the same electric motor, but increases the combustion engine to 429 horsepower and 384 lb.ft.
